Afterword
WHo's who?
[I hope to create a "Who's Who of Friends" to allow readers to find out more about some of the friends mentioned in the letters. In the meantime, you may go to the "Maternal 'Li' Family" page to be reminded of who the various members of Lily's family mentioned are.]
INSPIRATION
"The Summer of 1954" was originally compiled in the form of a print album as a wedding present for Alberta's and Ben's daughter, Karin, when she married Dave Sanders on June 20, 2009. The letters are therefore not merely a section of this website, but in fact its forerunner.
Karin died in early 2011. In recent years, she didn't always endear herself to her extended Quon family, but she was a people person capable of great charm. So let's spare a thought for Karin's very best qualities, which started us down this road of story-gathering.

PRINT vs. digital
You can view the album in either of two "for print" formats below, and also download it. The file is about 60MB. (I don't recommend trying to print it. Send an email via Contribute Your Stories if you would like a hard copy.)
For the digital version which is viewable on this website as separate pages, the letters have been abridged and somewhat tidied up. The print version preserves every word and letter – right down to typos and spelling mistakes. (A typewriter font was used to indicate a letter that was typewritten, while an italic font indicates a handwritten letter.)
The print album is also heavily illustrated with period images – everything from menu covers of restaurants in Honolulu that Jeannette went to on dates, to photos of the celebrities featured on "Talk of the Town" (i.e., the Ed Sullivan show) the night that Lil was watching.
